Non-knitting related PSA

Everyone, when you read this, *please* go check the batteries in your smoke alarms and make sure they work. Had a scare today in our apartment building, and in the middle I realized I hadn't checked my batteries in a while and thus it was a damn good thing I woke up when I did. I don't want to go into details, but just check the batteries. Please.
